The new OTR function unites the advantages of the rotating and cyclical-reciprocating technologies: as long as the adjusted torque value is not exceeded,
the motor rotates permanently and, hence, advances at an optimal rate. As soon as the pressure on the file permanently exceeds the set value during 180° rotation,
the Torque Reverse will be activated and the rotation of the file will be reversed by 90° to release the instrument. Then the file will rotate in the cutting direction again.

Denta Port’s new contra angle has a markedly smaller head diameter and is fitted with a built-in file electrode for more working length.
You should replace the file electrode after about 100 operating hours (rotation time). DentaPort ZX will emit an acoustic signal as a reminder.
You can rely on the integrated safety system: the DentaPort ZX Set OTR always knows what to do. The file starts to rotate as soon as it enters the root canal –
and stops again as soon as it is removed. And the automatic safety functions are activated as soon as file rotation gets close to the individually set torque limits or the reference point.

Optimum Torque Reverse
The file rotates in the cutting direction without strain. If the preset torque is exceeded, it alternates 180° forwards and 90° back.
Very small torque values for the torque limitation can be set by means of this function.
  
Auto Torque Slow-down
Auto Torque Slow-down The rotational speed is reduced as soon as the file approaches the preset torque limit.  This prevents torsional fatigue.
 
Auto Torque Reverse
The file stops automatically upon reaching a specific torque and changes its rotational direction.

The rotational speed is reduced as soon as the file approaches a previously set reference point to the apex.
This increases the safety in the critical apical area.

The file stops automatically upon reaching a stipulated reference point.

The file stops automatically and rotates in the opposite direction as soon as a stipulated reference point has been reached.
This prevents excessive instrumentation and apex perforation.

You save both material and time. After all, the safe removal of debris, improvement of canal access and retention of the original
canal contour are all achieved with a significantly lower expenditure of time.
DentaPort TriAuto OTR is available as separate module. Existing devices always can be upgraded with the OTR function.

 

DentaPort ZX Set OTR - Why Optimum Torque Reverse?
The file always is exposed to mechanical forces such as friction resistance and/or clamping force in the root canal, which act on the file as torque during rotary preparation.
This resistance counteracts the drive torque of the endomotor and can cause the file to twist (torsion). Under certain conditions (torsion strength and frequency of repetition) this may cause the file to break.
Therefore, the torque acting on the file must be limited. Such a limitation can be realized in different ways:
  1. Controlling the pressure acting on the file manually, i.e. working „with feeling“. This is relatively feasible when the preparation is done by hand. However, when a preparation motor is used, the tactile sensation is basically lost. Cyclically rotate the file backwards (opposite to the cutting direction) in order to relieve the stress.
    The most pragmatic application of this method is relieving the file periodically after certain time intervals or rotational angles. This occurs, for example, in reciprocating modes of operation. Periodic motions may not be very original, but they are easy to realize as far as engineering is concerned. One disadvantage is that the individual situation of a root canal isn’t taken into consideration.

     
  2. The torque acting on the file (impeding) can be measured. Hence, it is possible to automatically relieve the file only when this is really necessary and expedient. In other words, the actual stress acting on the file controls the cycle (torque-provoked reversal of rotation direction). This function is called Auto Torque Reverse and was realized for the first time in the world in Morita’s TriAuto ZX, later also in the endodontic motors DentaPort ZX and TriAuto mini as well as the treatment unit Soaric. Since this method has proven its worth, endodontic motors made by other manufacturers are increasingly being fitted with Auto Torque Reverse functions. 
     
  3. Nonetheless, there are qualitative differences between the different Auto Torque Reverse functions, which become evident in connection with such criteria as, for example, measuring accuracy and speed of the control circuit. Also such quantitative criteria as length of the measuring intervals or reverse rotation of the file affect not only the time needed for the therapy but also the effectiveness and, consequently, the safety of the reversal of the direction of rotation.
     
  4. It is in this respect that Morita once again is setting a new standard with Optimum Torque Reverse. Although the OTR function also uses torque-provoked reversal of the direction of rotation, OTR requires only a very small angular rotation of the file to provide safe feedback about its current stress. Accordingly, you can work with optimized rotation angles both when the file is rotating in the direction of cutting and the reverse direction. Material tests have shown that nickel-titanium files can tolerate torsion of half a rotation (180°) in the direction of cutting. In the reverse direction of rotation, a quarter rotation (90°) is needed to release the file. Extensive experiments and tests in dental practices with different file systems and brands have confirmed these values. DentaPort with OTR continues to be a universal system for almost all file systems. Yet, it has become even more efficient and safer.

Yes! All DP-RCM Apex Locators can be retrofitted with DP-TR3 (OTR). You will have the full range of functions without any limitations.
Older versions of DP contra angles can’t be retrofitted with an internal file electrode.
However, you can use the new DP contra head with integrated file electrode with the motor that you already have.

DentaPort is battery-operated and, therefore, mains independent. All functions are blocked when the charging cable is connected.
This means that you can’t use it to treat a patient while the device is connected to the mains supply.
Consequently, the tests (liable to charges) stipulated according to BGV A3 do not have to be carried out.
When used frequently, an intact battery should have enough capacity for at least one up to several working days.
It takes about 60 minutes to recharge completely. Should the battery’s capacity have dropped significantly, it can be replaced without any tools.

DentaPort has 3 memory spaces. This is perfectly sufficient for several reasons: The torque values stated by the manufacturers of files usually are maximum values that apply for new files.
Yet, the file already is „stressed“ after just a few rotations in the root canal and, consequently, worn up to a certain degree.
Accordingly, the maximum applicable torque value is that much lower. This questions the relevance of stipulating strict values.
If you have more memory spaces, you will have to make more adjustments on the device during the treatment (stress, hygiene).
OTR stays far below any maximum values and, in addition, it only requires a maximum of 3 files. The torque values primarily depend on the method and not so much on the files.
DentaPort has 3 memory spaces.
The built-in electrode also is subject to wear and should be replaced from time to time. In order to ensure that the electrode is always in perfect working order,
it should be replaced after about 100 operating hours (rotation time). A countdown timer is integrated in DentaPort and emits an acoustic signal when it’s time to replace the electrode
The EndoWave OTR sequence has proven to be very well suited. As a rule, however, DentaPort is compatible with all files having the following properties:
  • Made of nickel-titanium
  • Right-hand cutting
  • RA shaft
  • Speed between 100-800 rpm
This covers almost all conventional files for rotary preparation. However, files for reciprocating preparation cannot be used,
because they are left-hand cutting and, therefore, have to be driven counter-clockwise.

The torque values that can be set are many times lower for OTR than those needed for the conventional Auto Torque Reverse.
Consequently, any friction losses of the gear mechanism in the contra angle or motor hardly matter in connection with Auto Torque Reverse, but are significant with OTR.
